Trends Relating To Botox

By Ariel Mernal

Botox injections are nowadays popular as a 'quick fix' solution to younger looking skin. Wrinkles and fine lines in the face become quite a big concern for ageing people, so many of them are utilizing the latest advances in cosmetic treatments, and that means getting botox injections. There was a time when people may have thought that botox was a trend that would disappear, but people now realize that it is not going anywhere.

You may have read about it in the news or even seen it on television - more and more celebrities are now using botox injections to maintain their young looks and skin. There are those who are thinking about the popularity of botox, and wondering why it has gotten so widely accepted.

Well, the answer is simple really. Ageing skin is a big problem, and people know that botox is inexpensive and effective. Unlike plastic surgery, there are no scars after the procedure, it's low-cost, and it takes only a few minutes to have done. Because of the constant coverage by media about celebrity procedures, the public is more aware about botox nowadays.

What about Botox for Men?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. The truth is to the contrary. Women are still more likely to get botox than men, but it is becoming more widely accepted for men to receive the treatments as well. Media outlets have come up with a term for this, and 'bro-tox' seems to fit the bill. It's even about 50/50 men and women in certain clinics that administer botox treatments.

The trends are always evolving

Botox is becoming more popular all the time. In one year, 2010 to 2011, it went up from 5.4 million, to 5.7 million botox patients, so it went up 5% in that year alone. There are those who say that the number is more accurately about 10% per year that it rises. Most people see these numbers and are not surprised by them. There used to be those in society that looked down upon people who have botox treatments, and it was thought to only be done by the richest people, but this is no longer the case, and it is becoming widely accepted by people of all classes and economic situations. This procedure has become quite mainstream and popular.

There is more than this though. Not only are botox treatments used to help those who have cosmetic issues, they are used for muscle spasticity disorders as well. Spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy for adults and children, and blepharospasm are included in the other treatments that botox can be helpful for. The benefits are looking good and the results are more than satisfactory. Other applications include managing patients with migraine (multiple botox injections are given to the scalp) and excessive sweating.

There is no doubt that the future is bright for botox. Research is ongoing into looking at newer applications, and the results so far are promising.
