Eliminate Crow's Feet

By Alina Karemin

Our skin loses collagen as we age. This means that the skin is less firm to the touch and begins to wrinkle and sag. The primary cause of crow's feet is age and a poor skin care routine. You should always remove make up with a gentle cosmetic and cotton pads, wear sun cream, moisturize daily and drink plenty of water, because the skin around your eyes is the most delicate skin on your body. Age is not the only cause of wrinkles; sun exposure, your diet and even smoking are factors. Luckily there are non-surgical ways of holding on to your youthful looks, even if these factors can play heavily in the way you age.

Crows feet is what we call those small lines that develop near the eye area. You may notice them more when you smile. They become more pronounced over the years, especially when people are squinting. Young people rarely have crows feet. But, premature aging and too much sun exposure can cause crows feet to appear earlier than necessary. It has been discovered that smoking also contributes to their early formation.

Botox injections work by relaxing wrinkle forming facial muscles. Deep wrinkles, such as crows feet, are caused by repetitive facial expressions, as mentioned earlier. Weakening the muscles that are responsible for these facial expressions can dramatically improve one's appearance and reduce the visibility of the wrinkles. The muscles can be weakened without taking away or detracting from one's facial expressiveness, by using Botox.

There is much confusion and misinformation about Botox in the popular media which has frightened many people who potentially could be helped by this medicine. Most negative news about Botox is the result of misuse of this medication by inexperienced or non-licensed users often taking place in non-licensed or non-medical facilities.

Botox is a nonsurgical procedure and can be done right in one's doctor's office. It only takes 5-10 minutes for a treatment. Within one day, improvement in the reduction of wrinkles can be seen, with up to 5 days of continued improvement. Botox effects remain for at least 3 months, and could endure for up to one year.

Those who have not been trained should not inject Botox - it is a prescription drug. Used in small amounts, Botox, which is a neurotoxin, can paralyze muscles that are contracting. Botox is injected into the affected area for example around your eyes where crow's feet form, and then it binds to that nerves ending. By binding to the nerve ending it blocks signals to the muscle that cause it to contract, causing paralysis in that muscle.

Botox injections cause minimal side effects. In some cases, when there is no recovery time a patient has experienced some swelling and redness around the injection site. Right after having the injection, one can go back to their regular routine. A small amount of bruising, nausea, and headache after an injection has been reported by some individuals, but these symptoms go away rapidly.
